I’ve run a substack since the summer of 2020: The Save Journalism Committee (named after a Community reference). Its goal was to document the structural problems within modern journalism, and to point towards plausible solutions.
It’s gone pretty well. But the challenge is that I have profound ADHD, and sometimes my hyperfocus leads me to write about other things. I wish it weren’t so. Putting all my evening energy into a single project would be better. But, well, I can’t.
So I’ve created this second substack to house my other essays. I have no idea if the audiences will overlap. But I’ll try to bring the same general qualities to both: optimism, sincerity, thoughtfulness, and original commentary.
I’m naming this one after a quote I love from HBO’s Deadwood1:
God particularly likes laughing at plans launched by people with ADHD, so why not.
But, hey, subscriptions are free.
Yes, I know it’s based on the old proverb “to hear god laugh, tell him your plans'“. But I can’t find the original source for that, and this is my way of plugging a show that far too few have watched.
I am a HUGE Deadwood fan. I just got an Audible version of David Milch's new (and sadly probably last) book. As soon as I heard Calamity Jane pronounce this I made a poster of it:
"Every day takes figuring out all over again how to fuckin' live."
I like the Ian McShane spirit
